Couples Therapy

Relationships can become stuck in patterns that leave both people feeling unheard, disconnected, or unsure how to move forward. You may find yourselves having the same difficult conversations, struggling with trust or intimacy, feeling distant from one another, or simply wanting to understand your relationship better.

Couples therapy can be helpful at many different points in a relationship. Some couples come because they are in crisis or want to repair something that has become difficult; others want to strengthen a relationship that is already working well or understand one another more deeply.

I also work with couples who are considering or going through separation, as well as separated parents who want support in developing a more constructive co-parenting relationship. In this work, the focus may be less on repairing the romantic relationship and more on understanding the patterns that continue between you, communicating more effectively, and finding a way forward that supports both parents and their children.

Couples therapy offers a space to understand what is happening between you, explore what may be driving the patterns you have developed, and think together about what you want from the relationship going forward.

My Approach

I work with couples using Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), an evidence-based relational approach that helps us understand the emotional patterns shaping a relationship. Rather than focusing on who is right or wrong, we look at what happens between you when things feel difficult, distant or insecure, and how each person’s response can unintentionally keep the cycle going.

EFT helps us slow these moments down and look beneath reactions such as anger, criticism, withdrawal or silence. What we say, do, or avoid does not always communicate what we are actually feeling or needing. Making sense of what sits underneath these responses can help each person express themselves more clearly and understand their partner differently.

I value EFT because it is focused and purposeful. By identifying the cycle that keeps a couple stuck, the work can move beyond repeatedly revisiting the same difficulties and towards meaningful changes in how you communicate, respond and connect.

I work inclusively with couples across different identities, backgrounds and relationship structures.

We came to therapy at a point where we weren’t sure if our relationship could continue. We had become stuck in the same old arguments and had stopped really hearing each other. Sadie helped us understand what was happening underneath the conflict and speak to each other in a completely different way. We still had difficult things to work through, but it felt like we could communicate again.”
